TEXTO: A HERANÇA

Esse texto é muito bom para reflexão e atenção à acentuação gráfica. Boa Leitura!!!!

A herança

Eram quatro concorrentes:

1. O sobrinho fez a seguinte pontuação:
Deixo meus bens à minha irmã? Não! A meu sobrinho. Jamais será paga a conta do padeiro. Nada dou aos pobres.

2. A irmã chegou em seguida e pontuou assim:
Deixo meus bens à minha irmã. Não a meu sobrinho. Jamais será paga a conta do padeiro. Nada dou aos pobres.

3. O padeiro pediu cópia do original e puxou a brasa pra sardinha dele:
Deixo meus bens à minha irmã? Não! A meu sobrinho? Jamais! Será paga a conta do padeiro. Nada dou aos pobres.

4. Aí chegaram os descamisados da cidade. Um deles, sabido, fez esta interpretação:
Deixo meus bens à minha irmã? Não! A meu sobrinho? Jamais! Será paga a conta do padeiro? Nada! Dou aos pobres.

Moral da história:
"A vida pode ser interpretada e vivida de diversas maneiras. Nós é que fazemos a pontuação. E isso faz toda a diferença."

ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE
Do Rain Forest Make Rain?
Long-standing assumption: rain forests are a consequence of heavy rainfall. New hypothesis: some forested regions may produce conditions that lead to heavy rainfall. This “biotic pump” model contends that a vast forest such as the Amazon draws in large amounts of water vapor. Evaporation and condensation of the acquired water lead to a local atmospheric pressure drop. That decrease causes rain and attracts more water vapor to the forest, in a continuous positive feedback loop. “This theory could explain why continental interiors with huge rain forests remain so moist,” says Wildlife Conservation Society
researcher Douglas Sheil, who in an April Bioscience paper revived the biotic pump model, originally proposed in 2006 by Anastassia Makarieva and Victor Gorchkov, both at the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute in Russia. “It could also underline the dangers of widespread deforestation.” Though promising, the model needs more data regarding air circulation patterns and vegetations types to support it, Sheil notes. – Steve Mirsky

(Scientific American, July 2009, page 18.)

Your Brain on Shopping

It’s a hunt. It’s therapy. It’s a way of life. But has it gotten out of control?
AIMEE LEE BALL investigates why we spend the way we do. Alas, our romance with shopping seems to be coming to an end – or at least it’s up for careful reevaluation. According to
research from Stanford University, more than one in 20 adults are compulsive shoppers, purchasing things they don’t need, use, or even want. That’s because shopping, once devoted to procuring necessities, has come to fill multiple emotional needs – it’s entertainment, a bonding activity, a sport, a form of self-expression, and, quite often, a means of solace. “These days what you buy is a way to connect to others and showcase your personality and values”, says Kit Yarrow, PhD, professor of psychology and
marketing at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. So what happens now when more than five million people have lost their jobs since December 2007, and many of us are trying to curb our enthusiasm? Ironically, “when people feel economically insecure, they tend to reassure themselves by shopping,” says George Loewenstein, PhD, professor of economics and psychology at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. The thinking is: If I were conomically secure, I would go shopping, so if I’m shopping, I must be economically secure. And that’s just one thing to be aware of as you head for the mall. Here are a few others.

(The Oprah Magazine, July 2009, page 96.)

Answer the following two questions according to
1 . It is argued that
A) shopping seems to avoid the end of romances.
B) compulsive buyers will buy exclusively what they need.
C) shopping these days is just what it was once devoted to be.
D) it is high time we assessed our infatuation for shopping.
E) buying makes people feel economically insecure.

2. Researchers contend that
A) shopping brings no personal satisfaction.
B) most adults are compulsive shoppers.
C) shopping helps people socialize with others.
D) due to the recession, shoppers have quit buying.
E) what you buy cannot reflect your personality.

Where is the Love
By Black Eyed Peas
What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism But we still got terrorists here livin' In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah Madness is what you demonstrate And that's exactly how anger works and operates Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight Take control of your mind and meditate Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all People killin', people dyin' Children hurt and you hear them cryin' Can you practice what you preach And would you turn the other cheek
Father, Father, Father help us

CHORUS
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love
It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin' in Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug If you never know truth then you never know love

Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all
CHORUS
I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity Whatever happened to the fairness in equality Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found
CHORUS
Where is the love (The love)

POETRY FOR THE PEOPLE

“The writing and reading of poetry is the sharing of wonderful discoveries,” according to Ted Kooser, U. S. Poet Laureate and winner of the 2005 Pulitzer
Prize for poetry. Poetry can open our eyes to new ways of looking at experiences, emotions, people, everyday objects,
and more. It takes us on voyages with poetic devices such as imagery, metaphor, rhythm, and rhyme.
The poet shares ideas with readers and
listeners; readers and listeners share ideas with each other. And anyone can be part of this exchange. Although poetry is, perhaps wrongly, often seen as an exclusive domain of a cultured minority, many writers and readers of poetry oppose this stereotype. There will likely always be debates
about how transparent, how easy to understand, poetry should be, and much poetry, by its very nature, will always be esoteric. But that’s no reason to keep it out of reach. Today’s most honored poets
embrace the idea that poetry should be accessible to everyone. Many of the top 20.proponents of poetry accessibility are Poet Laureates; indeed, the position
of Poet Laureate comes with the mandate to bring poetry to the people.
Ted Kooser is one of those poets. He writes
about so-called ordinary things as cows, stars, screen doors, and satellite dishes. He’s been called an archeologist of sorts because, when he writes about everyday objects, he reconstructs the lives of
the people who have owned or used them. He says the poet’s job is to put a teleidoscope up to the ordinary world and give it back to the reader to look through. (A teleidoscope is a kaleidoscope with a
clear sphere instead of colored glass. When you look through the opening, it makes a kaleidoscope image from whatever you are viewing.)
